Eger... truly one of Hungary's most attractive towns famed for its medieval and Baroque historical monuments, and only 120 km from Budapest.

One of the country's largest castles sits overlooking the town; its fame lies in the fact that it repulsed a massive Turkish siege in 1552, and only fell many years later. The Turks then constructed bath around the local springs, one of these very bath is still operating today, albeit in somewhat reconstructed form. The mildly radioactive, calcium-magnesium-hydrogen-carbonate medicinal waters can be usefully employed in the treatment of chronic locomotor disorders and for post-operative orthopaedic rehabilitation.

Of the plentiful range of sights in town the castle is, of course, the most important, but others e.g. the several fine Baroque churches, Basilica, college and Turkish-period monuments such as the minaret, are all worth looking out. Eger is the centre of one of primary wine producing regions of Hungary: among its many great wines, this is also the home of Bull's Blood. And one excellent excursion place is the glorious Bükk Range east of the town.

The city of Debrecen (230 km east of the capital) is known as a focal point of science, culture, the arts and last but not least religion. As centre of the Hungarian Reformed Church, Debrecen is frequently termed the "Calvinist Rome". The expansive bath comlex has grown up in one of the most attractive parts of the city, in the Nagyerd? (Great Forest) Park. Medicinal waters containing chloride, bromide, iodine and hydrogen-carbonate are employed for those with locomotor disorders. The modern therapy centre in Debrecen is barely ten years old; the 4-star Thermal Hotel (opened summer 1998) which meets the very highest standards has been built directly over the centre.

This reach of Hungary's most beautiful rivervalley this magnificent creation of Nature cannot be found on the maps under this name, although it is not an enchanting. As it has been for centuries. The archaeologists' spades turn up ancient findings, relics of Roman settlements out of the soil. It couldn't have been by chance either that the region of the Danube and the Pilis forest became the dwelling places of Arpad, the conquering Hungarians' reigning prince and later the central territory of the first Hungarian kings.

Esztergom is the centre of the Hungarian Roman Catholic Church. The primate of Esztergom is the highest ranking dignitary of the church in Hungary. The city is also of historical significance. St. Stephen, the first Hungarian King, was born here; he was crowned in this town and he also died here. He founded the archbishopric of Esztergom. The chief priests heading the church possessed great knowledge and always did much to disseminate culture and education in the country.

The main cathedral built in the 19th century - it is the largest church in Hungary. Franz Liszt composed the Esztergom Mass for the consecration of the church, and he personally conducted the piece at the ceremony. The Bak?cz chapel is the artistic attraction of the church, built in the 16th century as a sepulchral chapel of the archbishop.

The Cathedral Treasury houses Hungary's largest and most valuable church collection. The library in the basilica is the oldest and one of the largest ones in the country. The Christian Museum exhibits the art objects of avid art collector bishops.

The royal palace of the ?rp?d dynasty built in the 11-12th centuries, later the archbishop's palace, is just a few metres away from the cathedral, and the ruins still project an ancient grandeur. Its terrace enables us to survey the city below and view areas Slovakia.

Balaton, the largest shallow lake in Central Europe, was formed by tectonic sagging around 25.000 years ago. Tihanyi-félsziget (Tihany peninsula) divides the lake into two basins. The characteristic view of the Mediterranean lanscape was formed by volcanic europtions millions of year ago as shown today by two giant calderas. The remains of these craters form two little lakes, without outlet, higher than the water level of Balaton: Bels?-t?, which is popular with anglers, and Küls?-t?, a paradise for aquatic birds.
As a result of volcanic follow-up activity, thermal springs created more than one hundred geyser hills in the peninsula. The most beautiful one is called Aranyh?z (Golden House) after the golden lichen covering its rocks.
Beside geological features, the peninsula is famous for its exeptional wildlife: the area became the first nature reserve of Hungary in 1952.
Tihany is a jewel of not only the Balaton but also Hungary. Since the nineteen sixties masses of tourists, both Hungarians and foreigners, have been visiting the place. Its main assets are the historical and cultural relics related to the monasetry, the unique landscape and the recreational possibilities of Balaton.

Sopron is situated near the western borders of Hungary, at the foot of the Alps, 60 km from Vienna and 220 km from Budapest. It is one of the oldest jewelboxes of the country. Sopron merges past and present in itself. It creates a bridge between Hungary and its western neighbours, opening a gate for foreign guests visiting Hungary, as it is symbolized by the coat of arms.
The inhabitants of the city are famed for their hospitality and loyalty to their hometown. This is also symbolized by the 'Gate of Faith', which can be found on the southern side of the Firewatch Tower, the symbol of the city, and which was made in memory of the referendum of 1921.
The curative and recreating air of the natural environment, the hiking routes of the wooded hillsides, the view towers, the mountain springs, and the proximity of Lake Fert? make Sopron one of the most beautiful and most pleasant holiday resorts of Hungary. The Loverek, the hilly area south of the city, is the most fascinating and most distinguished recovery area of the city. Calm forests with spruces, oaks and chestnuts, lilies of the valley and cyclamens, hiking paths and lookout towers - these are the attractions of the Loverek.

Another attraction of the historic town of Sopron is represented by the excellent wines of the region, so the city is becoming increasingly popular among those who would like to satisfy their thirst with noble wines.

Visegrad is the smallest town in the country with its 1700 residents at the meeting point of the Danube Band and Pilis mountains.  This national memorial place with a restless history celebrates its Millennium in 2009. This small community has been a scene of peaceful and creative living for hundreds of years with Hungarian and German nationalities in harmony with each other.
The Citadel (Fellegvar) and the Lower Castle The Visegrad double castle system is one of the castles built by Béla IV recognizing the consequences of the Mongol invasion. The fortress preserved its significance until the Turkish invasions.
The Citadel had a multifunctional role: it was protecting the valley of the Danube, it was controlling the main commerical route between Buda and Esztergom, and also served as a custom’s house.
The history of the Palace stretches back to the times, when Charles Robert moved the royal court to Visegrad in 1323, and started the constructions in town. Under the reign of Charles Robert only a few living accomodations were built, and an area was constructed for hosting knight tournaments, which was occassionally used also by the King.

The city of Hajduszoboszlo has been famous for the thermal water springing forth from the deep for  eight decades. Thousands of tourists from Hungary and abroad visit the city year by year, seeking recreation, entertainment and convalescence
Hungarospa Hajduszoboszlo Medicinal Baths are the biggest bathing complex in Europe today, where every generation may find entertainment

The city surrounded by three mountains lies in a picturesque valley in the eastern part of the Bükk mountains. Lillafüred is one of the nicest resorts in Hungary. Its climate is especially gentle. The castle built in baroque style between 1927 and 1930 is surrounded by a hanging garden and a large park. The view to the Szinva Stream and the Hamori Lake is made even more magnificent by the murmur of the Szinva Stream waterfall in the direct neighbourhood of the hotel.
